The Missouri Junior Golf Association was established in 2007 to work diligently to provide through financial assistance
the best opportunity for junior and underprivileged golfers in the state of Missouri. Missouri Junior Golf
Association is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. An eight
member Board of Directors will manage the affairs of the Missouri Junior Golf Association. By incorporating
as a non-profit, the MJGA is able to receive TAX-DEDUCTABLE donations in any amount from any interested individual or company.
These donations provide the basis for the funds which are distributed to individuals in the form of scholarships, grants,
and financial aid.
The Mission of the Missouri Junior Golf Association is to offer the opportunity to junior golfers to participate in
organized golf competitions or golf related events with other youths their age and skill level. An emphasis
is placed on the benefits to life, society, and community that can be derived through the Education, Leadership, Teamwork,
and Fellowship of participating in a sport where each individual player is responsible for playing under the rules of golf
and fair play. The leadership of the older players is exemplified for the younger players by their individual
and team goals, and where the young people can share and enjoy the fellowship of others with the same high commitments while
preserving the integrity and traditions of the game of golf.
One of our
goals is to develop character through the structure of the rules of the game of golf. An example of how
golf builds character is that it is the only sport where participants call penalties on themselves. Golf
teaches life skills like patience, good sportsmanship, and the ability to focus on the task at hand. We
hope that we are exposing our youths to a leisure activity that they can enjoy, no matter what their ability level might be
for the rest of their lives.
Our education of the game begins with introductory clinics for beginners, and is followed with rule books, rule tests,
literature on etiquette, and our parent and golfer expectations. The Missouri Junior Golf Tour in 2008
will conduct clinics and have a limited number of events focusing on fundraising, setting up memberships, and securing host
facilities for the inaugural 2009 season where a 15-event tournament schedule will be staged across the state of Missouri.
There will be 10 regular season events, 4 Majors, and a season ending Tournament of Champions where a dinner, auction,
and award ceremony will be given to the point’s winners of the year.
All tournaments will have a PGA Tour feel to it by having an overall Tour Sponsor, Tournament Presenting Sponsors,
Hole Sponsors, and Trophy Awards Sponsors. Print and TV media will be welcomed to give coverage as well
as press releases announcing the events and news from our Tour office. All tournaments will have their
own tournament committees established with the tournament director to sponsor relations as well as volunteer committees.
In a short time frame, the Missouri Junior Golf Tour will be recognized as one of the prestige competitive junior tours
in the country.
Membership is open to all junior golfers from grades 5-12, and until their 19th birthday.
Membership is required to participate in MJGT sponsored tournaments and events. Applicants for membership
must answer 15 questions correctly on the MJGT rules test to play in tournaments. A member will be required
to submit a tournament entry form and an appropriate entry fee for each tournament. Entries for each tournament
may be limited and members will be notified if their entry has been accepted. A member must have a valid
e-mail address and be able to obtain all information from our website.
