Tournament Format and Rules Compliance:

Each division will play 2 days of 18 hole competition (36 holes).  All tournaments will be played according to USGA Rules.  These rules will be strictly adhered to unless otherwise noted by a MJGT official and/or director.

Distance Measuring Devices:

The MJGT will allow the use of distance measuring devices, including laser rangefinders in its events and championships.

Decision 14-3/0.5 allows a committee to permit the use of distance measuring devices by local rule.  This applies to devices that measure distances only, not any other conditions that might affect a players play (e.g. wind or gradient).

The MJGT Local Rule will be as follows:  A player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only.  However, if, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance measuring device that is designed to guage or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc...), the player is in breach of rule 14-3 for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.

NOTE:  The MJGT is allowing DMD's to speed up the pace of play.  If we find that the DMD's slow play in any way, we will change back to the traditional ways of measuring distances.

Pace of Play:

All groups must remain in position with the group ahead.  Under no circumstances should a round take more than 5 hours.

1st Offense - Warning
2nd Offense - 2-Stroke Penalty
3rd Offense - Disqualification

Practice Rounds:

All participants are responsible for calling ahead to the host facility to schedule a practice round.  Practice rounds are optional and fees are not included in the tournament entry fee.

Golf Cart Rental:

Players will not be permitted to use carts during tournament play.

Code of Conduct:

Abusive or inappropriate language;  disrespectful behavior towards fellow competitors, officials, volunteers, or golf professionals;  throwing or breaking clubs;  any form of cheating;  leaving the golf course without properly notifying an official during a tournament round;  and abuse of the golf course in any way will be considered a Code of Conduct violation.

The Missouri Junior Golf Tour will for any behavior on the golf course it deems unsportsmanlike will enforce a 2-stroke penalty.  A second offense will result in an automatic disqualification from the tournament and possible suspension from future MJGT events.

Parental Code of Contact:

Advice Policy:

Parents and spectators are extremely important to the Missouri Junior Golf Tour.  We welcome all to join our golfers on the golf course to watch and encourage them as they compete.  Please note that parents and spectators agree to let participants compete without giving advice or council to them during the stipulated round (USGA Rule 8-1) knowing that a violation may cause a 2-stroke penalty against their participant without warning.

The only exception to the aforementioned policy would apply if the parent or spectator is the participants caddy.

Do not give advice to any player.  "Advice is council or suggestion which could influence a player in determining his/her play, choice of a club or method of making a stroke."  Penalty for breach of this rule is 2 strokes on the player (USGA Rule 8-1).  Talking to participants during tournament play is prohibited and will be construed as giving advice.  Parents and/or spectators may suggest the palying of a "second ball" if there is a doubt as to a procedure and/or rule (USGA Rule 3-3).

Spectator Policy:

Spectators are to remain on or near the cart path or in the rough areas at all times during play.  Please remain clear of all fairways.  Spectators are encouraged to praise all competitors.  Spectators are allowed to help competitors search for his/her golf balls when deemed appropriate.

Spectators can act as fore-caddies, carry umbrellas, jackets, food or drink, etc...  Alcohol, swearing or abusive language will not be tolerated.

Caddy Policy:

This policy only applies to boys and girls in the 5-6 grade age division.  We suggest players select a parent, grandparent, other family member, or friend of at least 14 years of age as their caddy, so that both can experience the joy of competition.

It is the caddy's duty to help the player hit each shot within a reasonable period of time.  The player shall play without undue delay, which is defined as taking no more that 45 seconds to play a shot when it is his/her turn to play.  If a player takes more than 45 seconds, he/she may be subject to a penalty.  Please refer to our pace of play policy.

Allowing a caddy is a special component of our events as our commitment to encourage family interaction.

Shuttle Policy:

Golf carts may be used to transfer players and caddies from green to the next tee when appropriate.

Playoff / Tiebreaker Policy:

A "Sudden Death" playoff will take place for the 1st place in each age division.  All other places will be determined as follows:

Starting on the 18th hole of the final round scorecard, the player with the lower score will win the playoff.  If the hole is halved, the 17th hole scores will be used.  This process will continue until a winner has been declared.

Points will be awarded in each tournament by a players finish in that tournament and will be accumulated throughout the year to determine a players rank and qualification for the end of the year Tournament of Champions event.

Sponsor's Award:

There will be a plaque/trophy awarded to the player in each division, who does not place, that improves the most from the 1st and 2nd round of each tournament.  There must be at least 3 players in that division for the trophy to be awarded.  This accolade was created to give the players incentive to continue to play their best, show sportsmanship, integrity, and to be true competitors in the game of golf to the final stroke.
